Headquarters of the Experimental Marine Biology Institute of the University of Oriente, this island is only 50 meters of above sea level and is located to the south of the Margarita Island and to the west of Coche Island. 

This island was partially sunken by an earthquake in the 1600.It was considered the mayor pearl production center of all South America, although today this activity is forbidden for environmental reasons.
