DE ARTE CONTEMPORANEO FRANCISCO NARVAEZ: The Francisco Narváez`'s Art Museum, on Porlamar's
Calle Igualdad, has a permanent exposition of pieces of this
well known Margaritan sculptor.
MUSEO NUEVA CADIZ
The Old Library of La Asunción is today's Nueva Cadiz Museum,
where samples of colonial pieces recovered from that city
which was the first to be founded in South America on our
neighbor Island of Cubagua.
MUSEO DIOCESANO
At the religios quarters of El Valle del Espíritu Santo, the
Diocesan Museum showcases a diversity of offerings granted by
the faithful devotes of the Virgin.

NATAL SANTIAGO MARIÑO
General Santiago Mariño, born in El Valle, is one of the most
important heroes of our independence. His natal home was
recently restored.
MUSEO MARINO
The skeleton of a 14.6 mts. long whale welcomes the daily
visitors of the Marine Museum of Boca de Rio. This museum
treasures numerous marine species, fishing tools and boat
miniatures.
CASA DE LA ADUANA
A good oportunity to visit a national monument and enjoy a
permanent art exhibition awaits you at the Old Customhouse of
Pampatar. This historical structure built in 1.863 was
declared part of our cultural heritage en 1.979.

A few minutes drive from Juan Griego, there is the Venezuela
Popular Art Museum. It recalls a little old town, with its
stone and adobe small houses filled with handcrafs from all
over Venezuela.

HANDICRAFTS
HAMMOCKS & CHINCHORROS There are the ones woven at the village called La
Vecindad, made out of colorful fabrics, known as hamacas; and
the chinchorros, from Santa Ana del Norte, of interlaced
threads forming an expanding net. Both towns have support
their economies on this handcraft throughout the years.
MARAS Y MAPIRES
MAPIRES (Palm Bags). The Mapire is a variety of basket made at
the valley of Pedro Gonzales, weaving fibers of royal palms.
This handcraft product can compete, due to its uniqueness,
with palm bags made anywhere else in the world.
STRAW HATS This type of hat is of great acceptance in the
whole Caribbean. Although of simple appereance, it is the
result of a skillful work using the leaf of date palm trees.
The weaving ladies of San Juan Bautista are famous for their
hand dexterity.
CERAMICA DEL CERCADO POTTERY El Cercado is a small town 1 Km away from
Santa Ana del Norte. The local artisans work clay in an
old-fashioned way, to shape it into vases, carafes, pots,
pans, cups and jars, among countless handy utensils.

A Paradise for Birdwatchers
The Macanao Península is the Western portion of Margarita
Island, with a surface of 300 sq Kilometers. As a consequence
of its relative isolation, this region was left aside from the
development progress recently undergone by the rest of
Margarita, still keeping vast vegetation extensions little
disturbed, and a diversity of fauna adapted to living in arid
areas.
These many beautiful scenic areas,offer the best potential
for the developing of ecotourism, specially for birdwatchers.
The bird communities of the Macanao Peninsula encompass over
100 species,attracting among them endemic or restricted
subspecies.
LA RESTINGA
The National Park La Restinga is found on the way leading to
the Macanao Peninsula. A ride on a typical wooden boat or
"peñero", via an elaborate labyrinth of magrove
chanels, will take you to the broad Restinga Bay beach. Is is
an inforgettable visit.
LAS
TETAS DE MARIA GUEVARA Located between the towns of Chacachacare and Punta de
Piedra, these twin hills, similar to the shape of a woman's
chest have been given the name of THE BREASTS OF MARIA
GUEVARA. As other the local myths, María Guevara was a skinny
girl from Cumaná who came to Margarita to lead a group of men
in fishing labors.

SIERRA
It is located within El Copey Hill National Park. It is an
incredible landscape with cool temperaturesand lush
vegetation. On clear days, you can take breathtaking panoramic
views of Margarita and even Coche and Cubagua Islands.
